Broward Young Lawyers Hit Links for At-Risk Kids
When members and friends of the Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section (YLS) hit the links on October 13th, players will be doing more than vying for bragging rights or winning prizes. They’ll be raising money for Florida’s at-risk youth.
The Young Lawyers Section Annual Charity Golf Tournament, now in its 25th year, will steer 100% of its net proceeds to this year’s charitable beneficiary, Florida’s Children First, the state’s premier advocacy organization for at-risk youth. All proceeds will go to benefit the Tracey McPharlin Initiative and the Broward Chapter of Florida Youth Shine.
“Everyone will have fun and many will be playing to win. But the Tournament showcases the best our profession and supporters have to offer,” said Howard Talenfeld, a prominent Fort Lauderdale child advocate attorney with event sponsor Colodny Fass Talenfeld Karlinsky Abate & Webb, and Founder and President of Florida’s Children First. “Between charity events, advocacy and pro bono representation, Florida attorneys are to be lauded for giving back to those who need it the most.”
Boardroom Communications, a Fort Lauderdale public relations firm committed to child advocacy, has signed on as the event’s Exclusive Title Sponsor. Boardroom Communications, like many other local businesses and law firms, has committed to partnering with the YLS and supporting this worthwhile cause. “Over the last several years, I’ve seen our community really step up and support this event,” said Meghan Clary, President of the Young Lawyers Section and a family law attorney with Chorowski & Associates, P.A.
The individuals responsible for throwing this event and raising thousands of dollars for at-risk children are sixteen young lawyers on the YLS board. “Giving back to the community and those children in need is a great feeling. We hope to once again run a successful event, and, more importantly, raise as much funds as possible for Florida’s Children First,” said Jeff Wank, the Tournament’s Chair and an associate at Colodny Fass Talenfeld Karlinsky Abate & Webb.
“Every year, this is a remarkable display of sportsmanship and charitable efforts from South Florida’s young attorneys and supporters of area children,” said Todd McPharlin, partner with event sponsor, Fort Lauderdale law firm Kelley / Uustal. His late sister and staunch legal advocate for at-risk kids is the namesake for the Tracey McPharlin Dependency Recruitment Initiative, which recruits and trains attorneys to represent children.
The event will be held at Jacaranda Country Club (9200 West Broward Blvd., Plantation) Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by the awards luncheon. Kelley / Uustal will host a Tee-Off Happy Hour on Thursday, October 4th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at American Social on Las Olas.
