World of Beer, known for its hundreds of craft beers, now joins the list of great eateries at The Promenade as it dishes out new tavern fare. The new menu is a mix of reimagined bar and grill standards and gastropub foodie delights – from burgers, sandwiches and fries to small plates, flatbreads and desserts. Everything on the menu comes with a suggested pairing of beer or cider, and the staff members are always ready to chime in with their suggestions.
First, let me share that I am a fiend for French onion soup, and not just any one will do. World of Beer’s culinary combination of Porter-infused beef broth and sweet caramelized onions is a tantalizing treat topped with Gruyere cheese. What makes it extra-special is instead of standard crunchy croutons, WOB’s version is made from German pretzels.
My usual dining buddy and I decided to go simple with some brats, but we realized the bratwurst sliders – with caramelized onions and peppers and a tangy Dijon on a pretzel bun – are anything but simple. From the first bite, we could taste the infused Guinness that made it almost not worth pairing with a German stout. Almost.
My buddy insisted on indulging our fattitude, and we continued our feast with a small plate of tavern taters. These crispy, golden brown tater tots came smothered in
WOB’s homemade beer cheese
with a dash of jalapenos, scallions, sour cream and bacon. If we were going to give in to our primal impulses, we were going to go all the way; so we asked for extra bacon.
As we were coming into the homestretch, we glanced at the table next to us with a healthy helping of a savory steak salad. We both paused for a moment, and then finished strong on our path of excess with the apple
rings. These doughnut-like desserts are deceptively delicious with a taste more akin to apple fritters once you dip into the accompanying salted caramel sauce. The combination of salty and sweet perfectly closed out our foodie feast.
Next time you’re at The Promenade, don’t pass up World of Beer. The creative menu will make you a regular – even if you’re not a fan of beer.
