Major league stars may get the headlines, but two coaches in Coconut Creek deserve our heartfelt thanks.

As our celebration of Father’s Day this month recounts, city employees Lou Italico and Wayne Tobey not only have their own families, but have volunteered countless hours coaching youth sports.

As they go about the city, they often get shouts of “Coach Lou” and “Coach Wayne” from both current and past players. Both seem well grounded when it comes to what sports is all about. Read to the end of our story and you’ll see the great takeaway nuggets of philosophy they have to share.

By the way, Coconut Creek Life wants to offer a big thank you to all the fathers who help make the city a better place to live.

After the interview with Tobey and Italico, Coconut Creek Life got a tour of the Recreation Center North on Sol Press Boulevard, which was quite impressive. The prices for the very well equipped workout gym are quite reasonable – $85 for three months, $140 for six months and $220 for a year for residents. Personal trainers are available for $20 for 30 minutes.

Coconut Creek’s continued growth is also evident in this issue.

A topping off ceremony was held for West Boca Medical Center’s Emergency Room on U.S. 441. Mayor Lisa K. Aronson noted how this symbolizes the city’s continuing coming of age in offering a full range of amenities.

We also visited the site of Long Pines, a new townhome project on West Hillsborough Boulevard. Read the story to find out why Long Pines is selling out so quickly and why Coconut Creek continues to be attractive to new residents.
