Raising the bar with flowers

Sure, it’s nice to make a quick phone call and have flowers delivered, but wouldn’t it be extra fun to learn how to arrange flowers like a pro? (Hello, Mother’s Day is in May!) Field of Flowers, which has locations in Davie, Boca Raton and Miami, has come up with a new concept within its stores called the FlowerBar, where customers get lessons on creating floral arrangements.

“We’re engaging our guests in a way they are not likely to forget,” says Alex Frost, director of business development at Field of Flowers. The FlowerBar offers several different levels of classes, anything from advanced classes for the aspiring flower designer to hosting a one-night party with friends. If you decide to throw a soiree, you pick the arrangement you want to learn how to design, and everyone gets a bucket of flowers, pruning shears and step-by-step instructions from a floral expert on where to place the flowers. Of course, creativity is encouraged, too. The best part? Since it’s a party, you can bring your own food and drinks. “It’s an entertaining way to spend an afternoon or evening,” says Frost. “Guests walk away from the experience with a custom arrangement they made and great ideas about floral arranging using texture, color and depth.” And if your design is a floral fail, there’s always delivery.

Parties start at $40. Palmetto Bay Flower Market,13615 S. Dixie Highway, Palmetto Bay
