Catch your favorite pro and college teams this fall at sports bars throughout Broward

Forgive patrons of the Parrot Lounge if they’re flying just a bit high heading into the 2018 National Football League season. The Philly faithful that frequent the venerable tavern (9111 Sunrise Lane), a Fort Lauderdale institution for nearly 50 years, continue to bask in the glow of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots—the franchise’s first championship since 1960.
However, the Parrot isn’t the only Broward establishment ready to welcome a rabid fan base back to its bar stools for football season. Fans of pro and college teams gather at sports bars and restaurants throughout the area to cheer on their favorite team (or, depending on the outcome, drown their sorrows).

Here are just a few of the places with NFL and college connections:

At Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill along the waterfront in Fort Lauderdale (3115 NE 32nd Ave.), customers don’t have to root for the Miami Dolphins—but why upset the co-owner, former Dolphins defensive great Kim Bokamper? Then again, with some 70 TVs throughout the sprawling location, chances are good that your favorite team is playing on at least one of them.

Miller’s Ale House in Fort Lauderdale (2861 N. Federal Highway) serves up weekend wings and Zingers (its buttermilk-breaded boneless chicken tenders) and a slew of craft and seasonal beers on tap, to all sports lovers—but don’t be surprised to see plenty of New England Patriots and New York Giants jerseys in the house. Fans of both teams gather at the Ale House.

According to the club’s Facebook page, South Florida fans of the New York Jets will be setting up shop this fall at Wunderbar Sports Bar & Grill in Davie (4995 SW 148th Ave.). The kitchen serves authentic German/Bavarian cuisine—think bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, schweinebraten (German pork roast) and those killer soft pretzels the size of a Volkswagen. Jets fans wearing jerseys or team gear qualify for $2 draft beers, $3 wine and $3 mixed drinks—which they’ll need if this season is anything like the last 48.

On Saturdays, join Broward backers of the Florida Gators at Twin Peaks in Davie (2000 S. University Drive) and the Florida State Seminoles at Slackers Bar & Grill in Fort Lauderdale (995 W. State Road 84; Slackers also is home to fans of the Green Bay Packers and University of Wisconsin).
