August starts out hot with events from local arts and education organizations
A bit of magic. Broward Center for the Performing Arts reopens its doors virtually to present Piff the Magic Dragon: Live from Las Vegas, a live interactive magic experience. The comedic magic show features Piff and his sidekick puppet Mr. Piffles (known as The World’s Only Magic Performing Chihuahua) as he performs never-before-seen magic in a comedic show for the whole family. Piff is well-known to magic lovers from his appearances on “America’s Got Talent” and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” as well as his Vegas residency. The live shows take place Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. Passes are $35.75. Buy tickets here.
Honoring women. Locally based chamber orchestra The Symphonia hosts A [Virtual] Symphony of Voices: A Celebration of Women in Philanthropy honoring South Palm Beach County’s most influential women and philanthropic organizations. Coinciding with the centennial of the passing of the 19th Amendment, the program will feature a special presentation about the 19th amendment by the League of Women Voters. The broadcast starts with a live, interactive cocktail hour and includes profiles of each organization and honoree as well as performances by several of the orchestra’s female musicians. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Aug. 26. Though the event is free, donations are encouraged. Those who donate $50 or more by Aug. 12 receive a cocktail mix kit in the mail to use during the happy hour.
