From Gridiron to Vineyard: A Legendary Rooftop Chef’s Table Experience

Escape Rooftop Hosts an Exclusive Evening with Chef Michael Mayer and NFL Icon-Turned-Winemaker Charles Woodson

On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Escape Rooftop Bar at the Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort will be the site for a very special five-course wine dinner featuring the locally-sourced delectable coastal Italian cuisine of Chef Michael Mayer, who also helms the hotel’s signature restaurant La Fuga. Accompanying Chef’s delectable menu will be selections from CW Intercept Wines, an award-winning California winery owned by NFL Legend, Super Bowl Champion, Hall of Famer and the only defensive player to ever win the Heisman Trophy, Charles Woodson. Woodson himself will be in attendance at the dinner to guide guests through the exclusive experience and discuss his journey from football super star to winemaker extraordinaire.

Priced at $110 per person, exclusive of tax and gratuity, the dinner will take place at Escape Rooftop, Kimpton Shorebreak’s spectacular rooftop lounge renowned for offering up some of Fort Lauderdale Beach’s best sunset views. The evening will get underway at 6:30PM; menu follows:

Woodson was exposed to wine culture after being drafted by the Oakland Raiders and attending training camp in Napa Valley. He became officially hooked after a memorable dinner with the legendary Robert Mondavi and began making wine on the side, launching with a 2005 Merlot. Naming his brand Intercept – in homage to his playing career which included 65 interceptions, Woodson applies the same passion and dedication to winemaking that he was notable for during his days on the football field. Officially launched in 2019, in 2020 Woodson earned the distinction of being the first black pro football player to achieve national distribution of a wine brand. His award-winning portfolio of wines are affordably priced, making them accessible to his many fans, who have always been his inspiration.
