5 for September

There's plenty to do in South Florida over the last half of the month

David Spade: The Saturday Night Live alum, sitcom and film star, and current co-host (with Dana Carvey on the popular Fly on the Wall podcast, where guests often talk about their experiences on SNL) brings his “Catch Me Inside” standup tour to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on Sept. 22. Tickets start at $45. (browardcenter.org)

Beach Ball Gala: YMCA of South Florida hosts this annual fundraiser on Sept. 17 at the Intercontinental Miami Hotel. Presented by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the evening affair funnels much-needed dollars toward swim lessons and water safety instruction for at-risk children throughout the region; child drowning were up 44% in 2021. Maison Valentino: Aventura Mall recently welcomed this luxury boutique from the house of Valentino. The chic 1,149-square-foot space boasts pieces from the Valentino Promenade and After Club Fall 2022 collections, as well as Valentino Garavani accessories for men and women. Movies by Moonlight: The monthly series, courtesy of the Fort Lauderdale Beach Improvement District, concludes its “Dog Days of Summer” theme with a showing of The Secret Life of Pets on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and their four-legged friends to Las Olas Oceanside Park. Snacks for humans and treats for dogs (thanks to Yum Pup) are available onsite. (theloopflb.com)

History Fort Lauderdale: The steward of Broward’s past honors Hispanic Heritage Month with “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture.” The fine art exhibit at the New River Inn—with contributions from local artists of Latin descent, including Leonardo Montoya (his “Palenqueras” oil painting is pictured)—runs from Sept. 18 to Oct. 2.
