Head of School Retires

After a 36-year career in Episcopal education in South Florida, St. Thomas Episcopal Parish Church’s head of school, Kris Matteson Charlton, has retired. A grand celebration took place in May with more than 600 students, faculty, staff, former colleagues, family, friends and clergymen, including the Right Rev. Peter Eaton, bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Southeast Florida. All participants enjoyed a tribute to Mrs. Charlton that was on par with her amazing contribution to elementary education at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School in Coconut Grove, St. Philip’s Episcopal School in Coral Gables and St. Thomas Parish School in Coral Gables. The Rev. Mario Milian, rector of St. Thomas, says, “Mrs. Charlton has been a dedicated, faithful and wonderful leader of our church parish for 13 years. As such, she has also been an important member of our parish and vestry and has done an amazing job bringing our church and school together to be ‘one.’ We are going to miss her immensely when she is gone.”
