You’ve probably watched a chef cook on TV and thought about how you would cook along if you had the ingredients available right there. This year’s COCHON555 makes that a reality.
While the typical COCHON555 tour wasn’t possible this year, a virtual version, Carryout with COCHON555 (presented by Citi) will connect South Floridians with five local celebrity chefs as they conduct virtual dinners on Zoom, creating intimate and interactive experiences during which guests join them in cooking a dish or heating a prepared dish to serve.
“Regretfully, as COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our lives and community, we recognized we could not produce our event tour as we had hoped. As a result, we decided to create a carry out program with an online component as a creative alternative for our fan base while supporting local restaurateurs, and raising awareness for Heritage breed pigs,” Brett Friedman, Partner & CEO of Agency 21 Consulting, which owns/operates Cochon555. “People are hungry to connect, so transitioning into something virtual was a natural reallocation of the brand. By inviting food lovers to enjoy a meal prepared by Florida’s top culinary minds, while engaging in intimate cooking demonstrations, we are still able to generate excitement while supporting our local restaurant community.”
After guests purchase tickets to the Zoom dinners, they can pick up meal kits at the chef’s restaurant or have it delivered. Almost all of the ingredients are sourced from heritage breed pig farms such as Sunshine Provisions in Florida and Joyce Farms and Cheshire Farms (both in North Carolina). Meals also include a bottle of wine (red or white) from Bodegas Ontañón and a cocktail kit or pre-mixed cocktail comprised of either Buffalo Trace or Wheatley Vodka.
