Arlo Wynwood has been proud of celebrating diversity, style, and creativity since its opening. To continue that tradition during its Black History Month celebrations, the lifestyle-oriented boutique hotel is initiating meaningful collaborations with skilled local artists that showcase why the hotel remains a cultural center for the local community. A customized theme suite by Reyna Noriega and a gallery exhibition by Kandy G Lopez will be featured during Unveiling Her Vision: A Celebration of Black Women Artists, opening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21. It will include an artist talk, during which both artists will be sharing insights into the inspiration that led to their respective creations. Additionally, attendees can look forward to a multi-genre music performance by the talented violinist Muzelle.
The new exhibition, Our Shadow Remains, is presented with Kandy G Lopez, an Afro-Caribbean visual artist represented by ACA Galleries in New York. The exhibition, which runs through May 15, will be showcased in the third-floor Living Room Gallery of the art space. The collection on display represents marginalized individuals who inspire and move the artist. Lopez draws much of her inspiration from individuals she follows and connects with on social media. She delves deeper into their lives to understand their experiences and create captivating portraits that reflect their personalities and stories. The artist channels her creativity into mixed-media collages, monotype prints, stained-glass works, and watercolors.
A fully customized suite featuring floor-to-ceiling artwork and beauty products by Afro-Caribbean Latina artist, painter, and author Reyna Noriega has been introduced by Arlo Wynwood. The suite, which spans 445 square feet, has custom-painted walls with peach, orange, and teal hues adorned with bold affirmations through vinyl on hanging mirrors, emitting feelings of balance and happiness. The room also includes custom art pieces within Reyna’s personal collection, including a 36×36 fine art acrylic on canvas titled Shoulder to Lean On, which depicts community amongst women; a 30×40 print titled The Blues, representing the joy of women; and a trio that evokes serenity and personal empowerment. Additionally, Noriega has incorporated custom-designed pillows featuring her signature patterns and waves, woven floral traced throw blankets, crafted ceramic mugs, notepads, and more. Guests who book this room will also be able to take home limited-edition items Reyna has recently worked on in collaboration with major global brands, including a custom razor she designed in partnership with Schick Intuition and Target, custom hair accessories designed in collaboration with Goody and Walmart; and a complimentary bottle of red wine from Clif Family Winery featuring a label designed by Reyna.
