Atlas Ocean Voyages Speeds Up Growth of Expedition Yacht Fleet

The yacht expedition cruising company is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale.

Atlas Ocean Voyages recently unveiled the debut of World Voyager, the third vessel in the line’s Explorer Class expedition fleet. Following a naming ceremony in October, the Antarctic season for 2023/24 will mark the inaugural deployment of the 198-guest expedition yacht, the sister ship of Atlas Ocean Voyages’ World Traveller and World Navigator.

The debut of World Voyager during the 2023/24 Antarctica season marks the first time Atlas Ocean Voyages will be offering Fly and Cruise Expeditions, which will include air departures from Punta Arenas, Chile, to expedite the Drake Passage crossing with direct charter flights to Chile’s Eduardo Frei Montalva air base on King George Island, Antarctica. Guests can choose from two new five-day round trips from King George Island and four new one-way Drake expeditions of seven nights from King George Island or Ushuaia, Argentina. The one-way expeditions include charter flights from Punta Arenas to King George Island and Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. Additionally, guests will receive a complimentary pre-cruise hotel night on all trips and a post-cruise hotel night on all journeys ending in Punta Arenas. Alongside the Fly and Cruise Expeditions, there will be a collection of ten 9- to 11-night expeditions from Ushuaia. All tours are now on sale, with waitlist options also available.  “Demand for our two expedition yachts in Antarctica surpassed all expectations, and we are delighted to add capacity for exploring the world’s seventh continent during the upcoming 2023 season,” James Rodriguez says, president and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages. “As our valued travel advisor partners and guests request more year-round expedition experiences, we look forward to welcoming a third expedition vessel to the Atlas Ocean Voyages fleet a full year earlier than originally planned.”

World Voyager is a secure expedition yacht like her Atlas fleet counterparts. The Polar Category C- and Ice Class 1B-certified vessel has two Rolls Royce 9,000 kw hybrid diesel/electric engines and 3D forward-looking sonar (FLS) technology that detects underwater obstacles, hazards, and shallows. This cutting-edge system enables the ship to easily navigate ice fields, harbors, and rivers, providing access to city centers, exclusive yacht harbors, and unexplored destinations. The yacht was delivered in 2020, and a style update is planned before she joins the Atlas fleet.

The spacious suites and staterooms are designed with traditional maritime cues like rich wood veneers and contemporary furnishings, complemented by classic artwork. The ship’s main dining room will be renamed Madeira in tribute to the natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and centuries-old traditions of the Portuguese archipelago. Similarly, the lecture hall where the Expedition Team holds illustrated enrichment talks will be named Ferdinand Magellan Auditorium after the famous explorer.
