Boca Raton Museum of Art enjoys the prestigious honor of hosting the world premiere of a much-anticipated exhibition that later will embark on a global tour.
Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, debuting Oct. 16, will take over the entire two-floor museum as part of an immersive experience that transports visitors to one of the seven wonders of the world. The exhibition, on loan from Museo Larco and Museo Manuel Chavez Ballon, features 192 priceless Peruvian artifacts and Andean gold—including the head-to-toe attire of a Chimu emperor that dates to 1300 A.D.
Other highlights include:
- The first-ever virtual reality expedition of Machu Picchu
- The use of projections, audio, video and artifacts for insights into the societies that ruled Peru for more than 3,000 years.
- An introductory theater with a floor-to-ceiling video display
- The presentation of 11 Andrean lords in the finery in which they were buried, including gold crowns, breastplates, and precious stones
