People ask me all the time what keeps me up at night? Besides the obvious one of “when will this pandemic end?” The more important one is “how will we look on the other side?”. With so many businesses closing, the effects on the commercial real estate market, and the state’s loss of tax revenues, it is hard to envision anything but a bumpy, uneven road ahead. However, before I start sounding too gloom and doom, there are potential tailwinds that we can keep the momentum going into the end of the year. The government agreeing on an additional stimulus package, declining unemployment numbers, continued improvement as the economy continues to reopen, an effective treatment or vaccine, the election results accepted by the markets and the outcome not being challenged and lastly, “a Santa Claus rally: given there could be potential pent up demand for such a unique holiday season. On the surface, this all sounds wonderful but with the volatility of late, being cautious and not greedy is paramount here in the short term.
