As we age the fat pads in our faces lose volume and begin to fall. This can present as saggy cheeks, heavy laugh lines (nasolabial folds), jowling and loose skin in the neck, which results in a more square shaped, older looking face. In the past, patients would need a face and/or neck lift to correct the effects of gravity and aging, as there wasn’t an effective non-surgical approach. Fast forward to today and we have PDO threads.

So, what is a thread lift and why is it so effective? The threads are composed of PDO (polydioxanone), absorbable surgical sutures that are used to perform cardiac surgery. While the sutures are underneath the skin, your skin gently reacts to the skin creating a selective inflammatory response to produce collagen to create a longer-lasting result. Our skin is excellent at repairing itself, and by inserting the threads underneath the skin to lift the loose skin, the skin will heal itself by creating new collagen naturally. Microscopic barbs on the thread can lift, contour and suspend the sagging tissues on the face, neck and the body, especially for those that need only minimal to moderate rejuvenation or for those that do not wish to undergo surgical intervention. It may also be combined with other minor procedures, such as Botox, injectable fillers, laser skin tightening or microneedling.

The result of the thread lift is immediate and even more noticeable after 1-2 weeks when all the swelling and potential bruising has resolved. The results will continue to enhance as your skin produces even more collagen over the next several months which will also make the results of the thread lift last longer than the life of the threads. More threads can always be inserted down the line to continue to improve the results and prolong the results even more.
