United Way of Broward County’s Women United Initiative Hosts Annual Magnolia Luncheon

This year’s co-chairs are Lonnie Maier and Carol Cutler, and the Women United Chair is Laurie-Ann Minoff. 

The United Way of Broward County’s Women United initiative is gearing up to hold its 12th Annual Magnolia Luncheon at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The event is dedicated to celebrating women who embody dignity, strength and perseverance. Established in 2010, Women United aims to inspire women leaders in the community to commit to the United Way of Broward County by focusing on priority projects every year.

Melissa Stockwell, a Paralympic triathlete and swimmer who served in the U.S. Army, will participate in the main moderated conversation at the event. Stockwell was the first female soldier to lose a limb in the Iraq War and was recognized with the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for her bravery. To aid her recovery, she took up sports, which led her to become a three-time Paralympian and a bronze medalist in the Paratriathlon category. She co-founded Dare2tri Paratriathlon Club, a nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities enter the world of triathlons. Melissa Stockwell is the proud mother of two, and she is still training with hopes of participating in her fourth Paralympics in Paris next year.

Guests who want to attend the 12th Annual Magnolia Luncheon must make a minimum gift of $1,000 to United Way of Broward County’s annual campaign and pay a $100 fee. Those who generously contribute $2,500 or more are invited to join the VIP reception that precedes the event.

  • VIP Reception: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Boutique Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. 
  • Reception: 11 a.m. 
  • The program begins promptly at noon.
