5 Musts in May

South Florida is buzzing with events, activities and destinations—as evidenced by this month’s to-do list.

Hagerty Garage + Social: The premium clubhouse/car storage brand recently debuted its third South Florida facility, this one in Miami (355 NE 71st St.; there also are locations in Palm Beach and Delray Beach). Membership has privileges beyond a secured, climate-controlled place for car collectors to keep their prized possessions. Hagerty also hosts special events—like a watch party for the Miami Grand Prix (May 7) and a Cars & Caffeine get together (May 28) that’s open to non-members. (garageandsocial.com)

Studio 54 Reinvented: Turn back the clock on May 19 at Daer Nightclub as FLITE Center debuts a fundraising event that brings the spirit of 1970s New York to Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Expect dancing, disco and celebrity impersonators—including Cher—for an evening that benefits the programs at FLITE Center benefit youth aging out of foster care. (flitecenter.org)

Zeru Miami: The first international restaurant from Mexico City-based Grupo Zeru brings coastal Mediterranean Basque cuisine to Brickell. Chef/partner Israel Aretxiga and executive chef Gabriela Guitrón incorporate “the beautiful and simple combination of wood, smoke and flame” to bring flavorful dishes to life—including croquettes topped with confit mussels; crispy, caramelized rice with Alaskan king crab and saffron; and whole-fish grilled on a Josper oven. The Doobie Brothers: The band that brought us “Black Water,” “Long Train Runnin’ ” and “What a Fool Believes” brings its 50th anniversary tour to Hard Rock Live on May 25. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have sold more than 48 million albums and earned four Grammy Awards. Band members include Tom Johnston and Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons and John McFee. Shoma Bazaar: The buzzy food, beverage and event hub in Doral has added four new vendors to its roster—including Shuck Boys Oyster Bar, Sushi Sakes and Sriracha House. Also new to Shoma: SNDWCH (pictured), the sandwich shop with meats sliced to order and bread courtesy of Sullivan Street Bakery, the famed New York-based shop that delivers bread to more than 300 restaurants in the Big Apple.
