8th Annual Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner to Benefit Walking With Anthony Organization

Walking With Anthony, a nonprofit organization that strives to change the recovery outcome of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), will team up with NFL alumni and legendary sports figures to host the 8th Annual Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner on May 16 at the Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, 3801 Bayview Drive. Since its inception, WWA has raised more than $4 million for beneficiaries by offering financial grants to individuals with spinal cord injuries.

The May 16 fundraiser will honor State Representative Chip LaMarca and Broward Children’s Center for their support of the Spinal Cord Injury Community. A surprise donation will also be made to a 19-year-old high school senior who suffered a spinal cord injury. The event will feature a day of golf with more than 200 attendees teaming up former NFL players, legendary sports figures and local celebrities, including Jamel Dean (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Dean Muhtadi (WWE), ESPN’s Danny Kanell, Chris Spencer and Mike Caussin.

“We have created a movement to raise awareness of the impact of spinal cord injuries, as before this, families who suffer a tragic accident like we did had little help in navigating through overcoming the life-changing event,” Micki Purcell says, the founder of Walking With Anthony. “100% of the funds raised during these annual events provide critically needed financial assistance for victims and their families for physical therapy, medical equipment or financial assistance for rehabilitation.”

Upon arrival, attendees will be treated to a gift suite with various items. All golfers will participate in the Hole-in-One Competition. After the golf outing, a cocktail reception and formal dinner program will be held to raise funds for spinal cord injury victims.

The creation of Walking With Anthony was inspired by Anthony Purcell, a young man who became paralyzed during a tragic accident in 2010. Through determination and many years of physical therapy, Anthony can now stand with the help of a walker, go to work and drive a car. Walking With Anthony is dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of spinal cord injuries, raising funds to provide financial assistance for victims, expanding rehabilitation centers and supporting research relating to spinal cord injury rehabilitation. The Walking With Anthony mission is to change forever the recovery outcome of spinal cord injuries, currently perceived as unchangeable.
