Pinecrest’s Pioneers

Each summer Pinecrest holds a summer Pioneers Luncheon to celebrate the lives and stories of Pinecrest’s seniors. Some 600 seniors over 80 years old live within Pinecrest’s 7.5 square miles. Many of these citizens lived in this once rural area as children during World War II; at this year’s summer luncheon, held last month, there were 17 Pioneers 90 years of age and over in attendance.

Pinecrest Pioneers Luncheons are a tradition started by Mayor Cindy Lerner in 2009. About 100 Pioneers attended the luncheon that was catered by volunteer Garden Club members who brought home cooked food and served it to the attendees. This special day ended with a performance by the Miamians.
