We live in a world that emphasizes being more, having more, and achieving more. This constant comparison mentality sets us up to feel insecure and makes it really difficult to achieve true happiness.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting what we don’t have and complaining about the negatives rather than celebrating what we do have and focusing on what’s going well. How we view situations directly influences how we experience them.

Research shows focusing on gratitude can strengthen the immune system, change the human heart, and alter the molecular structure of your brain. That’s pretty powerful stuff!

Having an attitude of gratitude boosts happiness, optimism, motivation, and connection with others. When we feel happier and more grateful, it affects our central nervous system making us calmer, more peaceful, and less reactive.

Here are a few tips to incorporate gratitude:

Start each day with a gratitude meditation. Take a few minutes to ask yourself “what am I grateful for today” or “who am I grateful for” and allow yourself to connect with those feelings.

Express your appreciation. Don’t just keep it to yourself! You can do this with random acts of kindness such as treating the next person in line at Starbucks to a coffee or being more intentional with expressing how much you appreciate someone specific in your life.

End your day with a gratitude journal. What we focus on magnifies! Get into the habit of writing down 2 things that you’re grateful for each day.

A little gratitude goes a long way! If you want help with boosting your happiness in life or feeling more fulfilled in your relationship, contact Dr. Kate Campbell, LMFT and the team at Bayview Therapy (954) 391-5305 ext. 1 or visit our website for more information.
