Habitat for Humanity of Broward Hosts Legislative Build Day

The nonprofit organization has assisted over 600 low-income families in discovering appropriate homes.

Amazon was among the sponsors recently hosting a Legislative Build Day with Habitat for Humanity of Broward. Light painting enhancements were done with Amazon VPs, local colleagues, and 16 policymakers from Broward, including State Rep. Chip LaMarca. The renovations were conducted to benefit Takira Lundy, a soon-to-be homeowner who picked gray paint for her home. Lundy is among the 76 homeowners who will soon be moving into the Habitat for Humanity neighborhood. The completion date for Lundy’s home is set for this summer.

“This community is a 76-home community with two parks,” Nancy Robin says, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Broward. “We are going to keep working on four of our houses that we are getting ready to close very shortly for four hardworking families.”

Habitat for Humanity was initially founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976. The concept of creating affordable housing for those in need was first inspired by the Koinonia Farm, a Christian farming community established by Clarence Jordan in 1942. Habitat Broward became an independent affiliate in June of 1983 and has aided 612 deserving families in finding suitable homes.
