(Technically, andropause) Men’s testosterone levels gradually decline over the years. What I have found is the decreased levels aren’t necessarily age related – meaning I have had a young patient (35-year-old) that have a much lower testosterone level than his father that I was treating.
Why do testosterone levels decline? Age, weight gain, lifestyle factors, head injury and chronic diseases. The symptoms can be non-specific and tend to overlap with aging. Low testosterone in men may cause decreased energy, loss of focus, loss of muscle, decreased sleep, joint pain, weight gain, mood swings, anxiety, depression, increased sweating, low libido and decreased sexual function.
If you have had your testosterone levels checked and were told “you are fine” or “you are in the normal range” what we have learned, is “normal” isn’t always optimal. Can you naturally increase your testosterone levels? Yes, but only by a small amount with exercise, weight loss and sleep.
To find out if you may benefit from testosterone therapy, all you need is a simple blood test. We can provide you with a prescription so you can have your drawn at your preferred laboratory or wherever your insurance carrier requires you to use, or we can draw them here at LowTE Florida for a minimal fee.
Testosterone therapy, when appropriately dosed and monitored, can be life changing. The latest research is confirming that aging with youthful hormones is healthier than without – potential decreased cardiac issues, arthritis, Alzheimer’s Disease and prostate cancer.
