History Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Viva Fort Lauderdale Showcases South Florida Artists

History Fort Lauderdale will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the fifth anniversary of “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture,” a free exhibition showcasing the work of South Florida artists.

The exhibit runs Sept. 17 through Oct. 25 at the New River Inn, 231 SW Second Ave., and opens with a free artist meet-and-greet and preview reception at 6 p.m. Sept. 17. Guests may register for the free preview reception at bit.ly/HFLVivaPreview2026.

This year’s exhibition features works by History Fort Lauderdale artists-in-residence Florencia Clement de Grandprey, a Spanish-born mixed-media figurative artist, and Venezuelan artists Isabel Perez Salazar and Lifrancis Rojas. New this year are sculptures by Nicaraguan-born artist Norman Silva, whose work has been influenced by his family’s immigration journey and his childhood experiences during Nicaragua’s civil war.

“These award-winning multinational visionaries capture the heart and soul of our culturally diverse community through color, texture, portraiture and modernist sculptures that reflect life experiences,” said Patricia Zeiler, executive director of History Fort Lauderdale.

The exhibition is part of History Fort Lauderdale’s year-round programming highlighting the diverse communities that have shaped South Florida.

While “Viva Fort Lauderdale” is free, regular museum admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for students through age 22 with valid identification. Admission is free for members, military personnel and children ages 6 and younger.

History Fort Lauderdale is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with docent-led tours offered at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
