How are AI and other technologies changing your field?
Modern technology advances with photoshopping, editing, and even AI have made the field of plastic surgery incredibly challenging. Patients coming in are showing “wish pictures” or aspiring to look like such altered photos of “perfection” that they set unrealistic expectations for both their surgeon, and even themselves. It’s our jobs as surgeons to inform prospective patients to avoid the pitfalls of trying to achieve the unobtainable perfection that is created with editing tools and AI than in real life.
What’s the biggest misconception patients/clients have when you first meet them?
Prospective patients coming for a consultation have this misconception when we first meet that everything is in absolutes. Everything is either all bad or all good. You will come as you are and leave as you wish. Recovery is a breeze. Things happen overnight. These are all misconceptions. What patients need to realize is that they are patients… this is medicine, it’s art, and most important, it’s surgery. You have to give your body time and respect, and follow all instructions in order to give yourself the best chance at healing properly.
What gives you satisfaction in your field?
The most satisfying aspect of plastic surgery is being able to deliver incredible, life-changing results to patients on a daily basis and seeing their honest reactions of joy. Nothing is more satisfying than just hearing confidence return to a woman’s voice and seeing it in her eyes/expressions when they talk in post-op appointments.
