When one’s hormones are not optimized, many women and men notice mood swings. Women going through menopause experience various symptoms. Some of these symptoms include hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, weight gain, low libido, and vaginal dryness.

Menopause also causes emotional changes. Studies have shown that some women experience depression and anger during menopause. Fortunately, menopausal mood swings are manageable with treatment and lifestyle changes. You may feel a little “snappy”, you may say things that you wouldn’t normally say or even not say the things you should. This is an unnecessary roller coaster ride. Perimenopausal rage is an emotion characterized by a sudden feeling of anger or irritation.

One moment you could be feeling untroubled, and the next you’re bursting with anger. This could be because of low estrogen levels. Emotional symptoms of menopause may include aggressiveness, irritability, anxiety, depression, sadness, excessive joy, feelings of helplessness, worthlessness, and/ or hopelessness. At menopause, estrogen levels decline while pituitary LH and FSH levels increase. The loss of modulating effects of estrogen and progesterone may be the cause of perimenopausal and menopausal mood disorders in many women.
