Home Rule Hero

The Florida League of Cities awarded Mayor Cindy Lerner the celebrated title of 2015 Home Rule Hero. The award is given to local government officials who make an effort to reach out to legislature members to give local perspective to an issue. Lerner’s dedication to advancing the league’s legislative agenda and helping preserve the home rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2015 legislative session makes her the perfect recipient for such an award. “Strong home rule powers ensure that the government stays close to the people it serves,” Lerner says. “That’s why I have been, and will continue to be, an advocate for the league – to help eliminate unfunded mandates and preemptions and to protect cities’ right to home rule powers.”
