Road To Kagoshima

It is not uncommon for a celebration to go hand in hand with an incredible opportunity. The Miami-Kagoshima Sister City is celebrating its 25-year milestone by offering select Miami high school students an opportunity to visit Japan each summer. In June, five adventurous teens will hone their Japanese language skills during a 12-day stay with a Kagoshima family.

Three of the five exchange students this summer are Palmetto Senior High students. Palmetto is the only traditional community public school in Miami-Dade to offer Japanese classes.

To express how dedicated she is, Mieko Avello, the Japanese teacher at Miami Palmetto Senior High, tutors after school hours to give students an opportunity to advance quickly and prepare.
