2025 Legacy Society Luncheon Celebrates Transformational Philanthropy

Guests in attendance included promises in their estate plans totaling $462 million towards the foundation’s endowment

The Community Foundation of Broward Celebrated its 2025 Legacy Society Luncheon on on Thursday, February 27, at Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach. South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and influencers were among the guests who sailed through the years with the Community Foundation of Broward.

The annual event honors the Community Foundation of Broward’s Legacy Society members, visionaries who believe in the power of endowment to change lives and transform the community they call home. By including the Community Foundation of Broward in their estate plans, they create a legacy of BOLD impact that spans generations and defines Broward’s future.

During the event, guests aboard experienced a blessing and heard an impact story from Rabbi Chaim Slavaticki of the Las Olas Chabad Jewish Center and Friendship Circle. Guests heard anecdotes from Kenny Tate, the owner of Bahia Mar and Community Foundation of Broward Fundholder. Surrounded by a gathering of the community’s most impactful philanthropists, it was an afternoon night of sail-ebration.

The Legacy Society was started in 2000 with just 19 members and gift commitments totaling $2 million. Today, the Legacy Society is nearly 196 members strong with more than $462 million in promises. The grants awarded through endowed charitable funds created through legacy gifts total nearly $67 million. That’s $67 million of direct positive impact on Broward, and lots of lives changed. Those funds will continue generating new grant dollars every year – forever. The impact will never end.

“Legacy Society members are visionaries whose estate plans include charitable giving through the Community Foundation to ensure that Broward’s future remains bright and full of possibility,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. “We are honored to be their philanthropy partner, safeguarding their endowed gifts so that their legacy of community impact never ends.”

Presently, the Foundation shepherds 571 charitable funds, and over 40 years, it has provided nearly $200 million in support of student achievement, the arts, career readiness, seniors in need, HIV/AIDs prevention, equity and social justice, environmental resilience, health care, mental health, affordable housing, disaster relief, nonprofit empowerment and much more in Broward County. All grants are made possible by the dedicated fundholders who partner with the Foundation to create charitable funds to fuel their philanthropy.
