Nov. 13: The fifth annual Ryan Owens Memorial Run, held on Deerfield Beach, honors the life of the Fort Lauderdale native and Navy SEAL who was killed in action in 2017. The 4-mile event, which recalls the weekly timed beach runs during SEAL training, benefits the Naked Warrior Project—a nonprofit organization started by Ryan’s brother John to memorialize fallen Navy SEALs and provide support to their families. Nov. 16: Joe’s Stone Crab on Miami Beach steps back in time for a charitable brunch that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami. The Miracle Society is hosting Jazz at Joe’s, a Roaring Twenties-themed fundraiser to support the mentoring relationships promoted by BBBS. Nov. 18: Santa won’t be the only special guest attending the annual Tree Lighting ceremony at Shops at Merrick Park in Coral Gables. Preston Howell (pictured), the Miami native who earned a spot on John Legend’s team during Season 17 of NBC’s The Voice, also will perform as part of a celebration that includes interactive games, retailer pop-up stations and the lighting of a 50-foot tree (with WSVN-Channel 7’s Belkys Nerey flipping the switch). Nov. 19: Mizner Park Amphitheater provides the backdrop for Light Up Downtown Boca, a series of holiday festivities that kicks off with a full slate of activities. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a holiday stage show, followed by the lighting of a 47-foot animated tree (with more than 25,000 LED lights) and a fireworks display.
