Skills for Kids

Hoping your children avoid the proverbial “summer slide” this summer? These virtual camps have just the answer.

Photo Finish (pictured above). The Palm Beach Photographic Centre’s annual FOTOcamp for children and teens goes online this summer, allowing for student photographers across South Florida to explore their skills. The camp is offered at three levels. Level 1 teaches history and the basics of using a DSLR camera such as shutter mode, ISO settings and more. Level 2 teaches advanced camera functions and post-processing with Photoshop and Lightroom while Level 3 features instruction from master instructors.

At the end of the camp, students may submit their portfolio to the juried FOTOcamp Exhibition. Chosen images will be displayed from Aug. 22 through Oct. 24.

Dates: Level 1 starts June 22; Level 2 starts June 26; Level 3 dates TBA

Cost: $125 for Level 1; $275 for Level 2; $395 for Level 3

Biz Kid Academy, for middle and high school students, equips future business leaders with entrepreneurial skills and mentoring. Students will generate business ideas, learn marketing and sales skills, learn business finances and write a business plan. They will also be able to register their business with the state and connect with other young entrepreneurs through Facebook.
