Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick (SSL) Foundation Hosts Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception

The nonprofit organization will award 10 deserving women from Broward College with the Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship.

The Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick (SSL) Foundation is set to recognize 10 deserving women attending Broward College at the upcoming 3rd Annual Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception. The event will occur from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. The event co-chairs for the occasion are Maggie Suazo and Dr. Shernette Grant, distinguished business leaders and members of the SSL board.

As part of the LIFT Mentorship Program offered by the foundation, each recipient will be granted a scholarship and assigned an SSL mentor for the year. The event, which takes place annually, draws the attendance of various dignitaries, elected officials, as well as business and community leaders. This year, SSL will host Gregory A. Haile, J.D., the president of Broward College; Mayor Dean Trantalis of the City of Fort Lauderdale; Commissioner Steven Glassman of the City of Fort Lauderdale; and Ina Lee, the president of TravelHost Fort Lauderdale and SSL’s first honorary co-chairwoman, who will be delivering the welcome remarks.

“I am so proud of our community for coming together to give women the opportunity to pursue their dreams.” Dr. Elizabeth King says, SSL Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer. “The increasing number of scholarship recipients every year speaks volumes about the incredible generosity of many. Seeing the tangible impact we can create through our collective efforts warms my heart and underscores the power of unity.”

Although the event is sold out, individuals can still contribute to sslwomen.org/donate. All donations will support SSL’s various initiatives to empower women and children through education, mentorship, and community outreach.

The Pelican Grand Beach Resort is the proud host sponsor of the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. This highly esteemed event is supported by DigitalBridge Group Advisors, who have taken on the role of gold sponsor. As the celebrity emcee, Saira Anwer, a renowned reporter at WPLG-TV Local 10, will guide the evening’s festivities. The event’s media sponsors are WPLG-Local 10 TV and Lifestyle Media Group. Additionally, Adam David provided and sponsored the musical accompaniment for the evening.

On August 25, 2017, the SSL Foundation was bestowed with a proclamation and the KEY to Broward County for its exceptional efforts in the community. On August 25, 2021, the City of Fort Lauderdale honored the foundation by granting them a proclamation, announcing Aug. 25 as “SSL Day in the City of Fort Lauderdale” every year.

The SSL Foundation was founded in 2012 and operates as a nonprofit organization with a 501c3 status. Its focus is empowering women and children from diverse backgrounds to become resilient, self-confident, and purposeful leaders through education, mentorship, and community outreach efforts.
