What: Victor Hugo’s epic, set during the French Revolution, touches on themes of love, sacrifice, dreams and redemption in one of the most popular musicals of all time. The new Broadway production features favorites such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own” and “Bring Him Home,” telling the story of the redemption of Jean Valjean and how it touches those he loves.

Annual Art Competition

Where: Studio 18 in the Pines, 1101 Poinciana Drive, Pembroke Pines

What: View work from local artists competing in eight categories, including best digital art, drawing, photograph, sculpture, painting and watercolor at the 15th annual event.

Angels for Angels Charity Gala

When: Oct. 12, 7-11 p.m.

Where: St. Andrews Country Club, 17557 Claridge Oval W., Boca Raton

What: The second annual gala benefits the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics, which seeks to find a cure for the disease. Attendees enjoy dinner, cocktail hour, silent auction and a paddle raise.

Peter Pan Pirate Party

When: October 12, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Where: Stranahan House, 335 SE 6th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale

What: Bring your little ones to Neverland and join Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy and the Lost Boys in an adventure along the New River. Enjoy an afternoon of snacks, crafts, games and fun.

OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival

When: October 10-20

Where: Museum of Discovery & Science AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater (401 SW 2nd Street) the Classic Gateway Theatre (1820 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale) and Savor Cinema (503 Southeast 6th Street)

What: This bi-annual film festival features educational and encouraging contemporary perspectives on the LGBTQ+ experience through a series of screenings. It will kick-off on October 10th with an Opening Night showing of the comedy “Adam.”
