WSVN’s Today in Florida Morning News Program Welcomes New Anchor Team

It is the No. 1-rated morning news program in South Florida.

WSVN-TV (7 NEWS) has recently announced a change in the anchor team for their highly acclaimed six-hour morning news block. Joining Alex de Armas and Ethan Calloway as weekday morning co-anchors on Today in Florida from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. are Lorena Estrada and Tavares Jones. Lorena will officially start her new role in November, while Tavares has already begun. The two have previously anchored together on weekend mornings.

Oliva DiVenti, a news reporter who joined 7 NEWS in April 2023, has been selected to anchor the weekend morning edition of Today in Florida. The network has yet to announce who will be her co-anchor. This change is due to the departure of Anchor Vanessa Borge, who has decided to leave Today in Florida in November. Borge will be relocating to Los Angeles to join her husband.

“We are delighted to promote Lorena and Tavares to weekday mornings,” Alice Jacobs says, VP of News and Local Programming at 7 NEWS.  “They are both credible journalists and have a natural ability to connect with morning viewers. They also have a great chemistry with each other, and

current anchors, Alex and Ethan.”

WSVN added an extra hour (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) of news weekdays in June, building on the longtime success of Today in Florida. The recent morning news expansion and ratings strength overall in a highly competitive Miami television market positions the station as the local news leader among key demographics.

“We are grateful to Vanessa for her contributions during her time at 7 NEWS,” Paul Magnes says, Co-President and General Manager of 7 NEWS. “Vanessa’s departure will result in three well-deserved promotions, with anchor teams that will continue building on our success.”

Sunbeam Television Corporation owns and operates WSVN-TV (Fox) in Miami and WHDH-TV and WLVI-TV (CW) in Boston. For additional information, contact Lily Pardo at [email protected] or 305-336-2916.
