Living in a Village that’s surrounded by bodies of water ranging from pools to beaches, residents can never be too careful with friends and family. In the spirit of safety, here are five basic reminders to clip, post and share courtesy of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
1. Don’t get comfortable. Swimming lessons are great, but they’re not a failsafe solution to pool safety. Always keep a close eye on children when they’re in the water… no matter bathtub or pool.
2. Practice makes perfect. Ensure everyone in the family knows how to swim and go over safety rules often to keep them top of mind in the summer months.
3. Be prepared. Grab a phone before you head outside – it will save time if an emergency occurs and prevent having to leave kids unattended to answer the phone. Another great tip? Tuck long hair into a cap or braid to prevent it from getting sucked into pool vacuum lines.
4. Listen up. Install alarms on doors that lead out to a pool area so everyone is aware when a door has been opened.
5. Learn CPR. Taking a simple course can save lives, as drowning victims often have a better chance of survival when they get assistance right away.
