Conscious Kids Festival

  • Kids will learn valuable life skills from South Florida’s top mindfulness and wellness practitioners. There will be child-approved yoga, plus live music, performers, face painting, art, games and healthy food.

Back-to-School Tax-Free Weekend

  • Shopping is even better with a deal. This weekend, certain items will be exempt from tax:  certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item; clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item; and personal computers and certain computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use selling for $750 or less per item.
  • Sawgrass Mills will kick off the holiday by giving $25 gift cards to the first 100 shoppers on Aug. 4. It will also extend its hours of operation during the weekend.

New seasonally inspired menu at 3030 Ocean

  • Led by Food Network’s “Chopped” champion executive chef Adrienne Grenier and executive sous chef Brooke Mallory, the waterfront restaurant launched a new menu that highlights the flavors of the summer.
    • Starters include grilled Florida peach and local burrata (with sugar snap peas, smoked prosciutto and lemon honey vinaigrette) and local heirloom tomatoes (with raw sweet corn, arugula, ricotta salata and basil-jalapeño dressing).
    • New house-made pastas include goat cheese agnolotti (with baby summer squash, local corn and walnut pesto) and potato gnocchi (with leek purée, shiitake, asparagus, truffle and farm egg).
    • New entrées include bourbon-peach glazed smoked chicken leg (with red peas, tasso ham, greens, turnips and house hot sauce), grilled Florida pompano (with chickpeas, confit local eggplant, smoked tomatoes, arugula and lemon yogurt) and sautéed softshell crab (with andouille sausage, sweet corn, baby potatoes, watercress and Old Bay butter).
    • For dessert, there’s the roasted peach and cherry crostata (with pistachio frangipane and cherry-black pepper ice cream), blueberry-lemon coffee cake (with pecan streusel, cream cheese frosting and buttermilk ice cream) and local mango semifreddo (with fresh coconut and dragon fruit sorbet).
    • To complement the savory menu, there are a few new libations: the Strawberry Smash (featuring Palm Ridge Florida Whiskey, mint, lemon, agave, strawberries and strawberry ice) and the Mama Mia, a mojito with an Italian twist (includes white rum, mint, basil, Limoncello, lime juice and Prosecco).

Brunch at Lightkeepers

  • The restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne just launched a weekend brunch. It is served a la carte on Saturdays (featuring items such as The Keeper’s Wife: local grilled artisan country levain, 63° poached egg, shaved asparagus, tomato jam, Hollandaise, crab and avocado) and buffet-style on Sundays (includes several interactive culinary stations and an impressive spread of savory dishes and sweets). All menus, crafted by Executive Chef Raul A. Del Pozo, feature the fresh seafood and land dishes from South Florida’s waters and local farms. Add unlimited bubbly, brunch punch, sangria, bloody mary’s, draft beer and mimosas for $25 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Saturday brunch reservations are recommended, but not required, and valet parking validation is available. Sunday brunch reservations are required and valet parking is complimentary.
