Broward Public Library Foundation’s Literary Feast, originally scheduled for earlier in the year, has been postponed to Saturday, September 12th. This event has garnered much support throughout its many years, having started in 1988, and has raised over $4 million for vital local literacy programs.
While the new date promises some spectacular programming, author Julia Phillips, originally scheduled to make an appearance, is unable to attend. Phillips is a National Book Award finalist for her 2019 debut novel Disappearing Earth, which tells the heart wrenching story of the kidnapping of two young girls in Kamchatka, Russia and the effect this crime had on the women around them.
Though Phillips is unable to attend the Literary Feast event in the fall, BPLF has found a new way to showcase this author and her work to the South Florida community.
On Monday, May 4th, BPLF will host a Virtual Happy Hour with Julia Phillips from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. This event will consist of a live interview between Julia Phillips and Gali Bulfin, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance’s Vice President, as well as a Q&A session with the attendees.
“We hope you’ll sit back and relax with a happy hour cocktail and enjoy listening to this amazing author,” says Library Foundation Executive Director Dorothy Klein. “Think of this as a taste of what’s to come at A Night of Literary Feasts this fall.”
You can register to join Julia Phillips and other local lit-lovers for this “literary snack” at bplfoundation.org/julia-phillips-virtual. The cost to attend is $25 per person and registration is limited to the first 100 people.
