The Big Number

Count Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County among those thrilled to be part of the Jim Moran Foundation’s 20th anniversary celebration.

The Moran foundation recently made a $250,000 grant to the Broward Bigger Better Stronger campaign launched by the county’s Big Brother Big Sisters chapter. In addition, the foundation also provided a $250,000 dollar-for-dollar challenge grant in the hopes of drawing additional funds for the initiative that supports Big Brothers Big Sisters’ investment in one-to-one mentoring relationships. As of late March, the match challenge already had inspired $55,000 in contributions.

Since its inception two decades ago, the Jim Moran Foundation, the philanthropic branch of Jim Moran’s automotive empire, has invested some $170 million in programs related to education, elder care, youth transitional living and other much-needed local efforts. As part of its 20th anniversary year, the foundation has committed more than $12 million in special grants to date—with more to come.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to The Jim Moran Foundation for investing in the futures of the young people we serve,” said Malena Mendez Dorn, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County. “This gift, which continues Mr. Moran’s legacy of caring for our community and strengthening families, will empower our at-risk youth to achieve their full potential through life-changing mentoring relationships.”
