Dancing & the Dames

The 52nd annual Tiara Ball promises to have at least one attendee sharing the floor with someone whose past dance partners include Susan Lucci, Jane Seymour, Wendy Williams and Suzanne Somers.

The ballroom at Bahia Mar will be transformed into a “Winter Wonderland” on Nov. 19 for the signature event of The Royal Dames of Cancer Research, the venerable Fort Lauderdale-based nonprofit organization that raises funds for cutting-edge research at the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute on Nova Southeastern University’s main campus.

Adding to the festivities this year is a performance by Tony Dovolani (pictured), the longtime mainstay on Dancing with the Stars, and his team of professional dancers. The Albanian-American ballroom dancer and instructor participated in 21 editions of the ABC show; in his last season, in 2016, he partnered with Marla Maples.

Expect a live auction (with prizes including a ride on the Goodyear blimp, and a seven-day Celebrity cruise). Also, one lucky raffle winner will have an opportunity to dance with Dovolani.

Sophia Mylona, owner of Thasos, the popular Greek-Mediterranean restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, is chairing this year’s Tiara Ball. Presenting Double Diamond sponsors are Ken Meares and Sharon McQuillan; Diamond-Plus sponsors are Hal and Mary Garber. Visit royaldames.org for ticket information.
