Great South Florida Escapes: Staycations, Part 7

Luxury resorts throughout South Florida are offering summer getaway specials.

1 Hotel South Beach

Address: 2341 Collins Ave., Miami Beach

Wow Factor: What does $40,000 per night buy you at this South Beach sanctuary perched along a 600-foot stretch of beachfront? Plenty. The Retreat Collection at 1 Hotel, a selection of nature-inspired ultra-luxury rooms, includes the two-story, 4,200-square-foot penthouse suite. Think four bedrooms, four full baths, one half-bath, a living room and dining room, a kitchen, a pool table and den—and a 5,300-square-foot rooftop terrace with daybeds and sofas overlooking the Atlantic and the Miami skyline. In addition, guests receive personalized concierge service, daily breakfast for two, priority seating at the resort’s stellar roster of restaurants (Habitat, The Sandbox, Watr at the Rooftop, Drift and Plnthouse), two signature treatments at Bamford Wellness Spa, clothes-pressing service, access to Miami’s top attractions—and much more.

Isn’t That Special: For those whose summer budget is somewhere below $40,000 per night, there are specials available at 1 Hotel involving daily breakfast, spa credits and resort credit.

Wow Factor: The beachfront property, within earshot of breaking waves across the street, is perfectly situated along the Lauderdale Beach strip, giving guests easy access to local shops, dining and nightlife. Kick back on the fourth-floor pool deck and enjoy adult beverages at the pool bar. The Discover Fort Lauderdale package adds to your summer adventure with two water taxi tickets and AC’s European breakfast buffet (for two).

Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale

Address: 1 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale

Wow Factor: All the amenities, service and charms attached to the Ritz brand are evident at this AAA five-diamond property overlooking Fort Lauderdale Beach. The elevated pool is part of a 29,000-square-foot tropical deck; there’s a 8,500-square-foot luxury spa on-site; and Prohibition-era inspiration inside Burlock Coast, the resort’s outstanding fine-dining experience. Though details were not finalized at press time, the Ritz is plotting some fun, themed packages this summer. Expect one for men (think pizza, burgers and drink flights) and one that’s over the top (think oysters, caviar and Champagne).

Isn’t That Special: Local foodies are buzzing about the return to South Florida of Adrienne Grenier, who was recently appointed chef de cuisine at Burlock Coast by her friend and mentor, Paula DaSilva, the Ritz’s culinary director. Speaking of DaSilva, diners also can look forward to a rotation of dishes at Burlock Coast influenced by Paula’s favorite chefs as well as by her travels. Hotel guests can inquire about Florida resident rates and savings for longer stays.

Sedge Valley Raises the Bar as a Premier Golf Destination for Golfers

Although he didn’t use the word “challenge,’’ Tom Ferrell clearly threw down the gauntlet (or golf glove) when he recently told me this at Sedge Valley – Tom Doak’s newest creation here at Sand Valley Golf Resort. “I bet, in relation to par, your scoring average at Sedge Valley isn’t lower than any other course here.’’ I didn’t take that bet.
