Bonnet House Museum & Gardens Hosts Family Fun Day on March 23

Admission is free for Broward County teachers and students 13 years and under.

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, a charming and historical subtropical estate spanning over 35 acres in Fort Lauderdale, will host a Family Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. The spring-themed event is designed for children of all ages and will feature various entertaining and educational activities throughout the estate. Some of the demonstrations and interactive experiences include:

  • Visitors can take self-guided tours of a historic house museum that boasts a charming collection of art and personal treasures from the Bartlett family. The iconic home is filled with various activities that visitors can enjoy, such as historic reenactors performing in each room, an Artifact Treasure Hunt, STEM Design demonstrations by Black Architects in the Making, and a special book signing and reading by author Bill Sydnor from his book, Mitchell’s Magical Day at Bonnet House.
  • Live classical concerts by the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra in the courtyard at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Wildlife viewing presentations and a Florida History-themed scavenger hunt. The activity involves solving ciphers, riddles, and clues as they explore the nature trails and learn about the timeline of Bonnet House’s history.
  • STEM Labs and instruction will be available to test the water in each unique ecosystem.
  • Under the yellow tent, art demonstrations, birding, and bird watching will occur. For a unique engagement with History Fort Lauderdale Museum, families will also learn the history of the famed Barefoot Mailman and discover what the House of Refuge was.
  • In the fruit grove, meet Rangers for Python Awareness and learn about essential ecosystems and food chains from Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.

In addition to exploring the beautiful grounds and learning about the diverse ecosystems, visitors are welcome to snap some pictures while interacting with City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department Officers, their K9 Explosives Unit dogs, and Mounted Police Unit horses.

At the Little Gift Shop, attendees can purchase a variety of beverages, snacks, and freshly made sandwiches. The Bonnet House Museum Gift Shop offers a range of tropical gifts and native plants for sale.

Admission for the Family Fun Day event is $12 per person for those 14 years and older. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For additional information, please visit https://www.bonnethouse.org/event/family-day/.
