When I am asked the question “how do you throw a great party?” It is without hesitation I say, “pick a theme!” Hosting a gathering small or large, in your backyard, living room, dining room, club room, my location venue, sit-down, buffet, or standing room only, pick a theme! So why pick a theme?
That theme propels your mood, and the mood of your guests. A theme makes it easier and keeps you focused. Choose decorations, foods, drinks, music, and invitations. And of course, even your evenings wardrobe.
What theme? Pick something you love! “I love Paris!” A Trip to Tuscany” “Spanish Tapas” or “St. Patrick’s Day”. Once you’ve picked it, choose the date, time, and place. Imagine your table, buffet or seated. Eiffel tower postcards, blue pottery and checked napkins or Fresh basil plants displayed in Italian pottery.
And now for the food. My favorite part. Small bites or 4 courses, nosh, nibbles, stay your course! Get your recipes together. Make what you can in advance. You want to be with your friends, and your friends want to be with you. Want to make risotto? Have your guests partake in the 30 minutes of stirring. Why not? It’s all worth it for the look on your guests’ faces and the memories that last a lifetime.
