Contrast and Comfort

Shop Emporium is a little gem of a store on Ponce de Leon, off the busy main street of Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. Owner Sara Zamikoff caters to a wide base of customers (busy moms, working executives, college students) and believes that customer service is one of the keys to her store’s success.

Sara buys with many of her loyal customers in mind and – whether it’s good or bad for some of us, I’m not sure – many items do not even hit the floor. She and her staff will call their regulars and even sell them a new collection directly over the phone.

Here are some of Sara’s trends for the summer:

Black and White will again be a mainstay for the hot summer months. Get the look by pairing solid pieces like a black skirt and white top with colorful accessories, or opt for a black and white pattern like the Flynn Skye Clothing Perfect Pant with a brightly colored shirt for a pop of color. They also make the perfect beach pant paired with a bikini top.

Kimonos are always in style and this season they are hipper than ever. “For the hot South Florida weather, we love a kimono as a multi-purpose garment. Throw it over a bikini for the perfect poolside cover-up or use it as a light wrap over a dress for an evening out,” says Sara. “In daytime it functions as the perfect way to dress up a white tank and jeans. A girl can never have too many kimonos.”

Graphic Tees are back in a big way, and you will see them styled from day to evening. At Emporium they will pair this essential tee with their favorite skinny jeans or cutoffs for a casual daytime look; for evening just add your heels, grab a fitted blazer or lightweight jacket and you’re ready. Added bonus? These tees are super-soft, so they travel well and are perfect for just hanging out at the beach as an effortlessly cool cover-up.

Tassel Necklaces are the accessory of the season. These colorful statement pieces will brighten up any outfit, from a simple black sheath to cutoffs and a tank. The pop of color draws attention to your face, so be sure to rock your best accessory – a smile!
