Tell us about your dogs and what makes them special to you.
Dora is a Chihuahua who was rescued from Tri-County Animal Rescue – a woman was hoarding 70 Chihuahuas in a warehouse facility, and Dora was one of them. When I adopted her she was young, but so weak that I couldn’t take her home for weeks while the shelter worked on making her strong enough to go home. Today, she’s a feisty old lady who just celebrated her 18th birthday! Luna is a 10-year-old Frenchie that was rescued from a breeder. Luna came to me when I was extremely sad after losing two of my dogs – Mimi and Moo. Luna was broken, as well. Together, we learned to move forward.
How do you juggle work life with your dogs?
Most of the time, I write in my home office. There are dog beds scattered all around my apartment. Luna’s snoring is my office “musak” and the soundtrack to my day.
What’s your dogs’ quirkiest habits or personality traits?
Dora is your typical Chihuahua – spicy, whip smart, and independent. She’s not a socializer and just prefers to stay home, waiting for breakfast and dinner. Luna, on the other hand, is jealous and clingy. She has to be near me all the time. She loves to go out on the town and meet people. And – like her mom – she loves a good, hoppy IPA, or a night on the town at La Fuga in Fort Lauderdale. Luna also has a wig and hat collection. We made a pact when I adopted her – I’ll give her the best life ever – but she has to wear incredibly ridiculous outfits for Instagram. So far, we’ve both kept to the agreement.
What has been the greatest blessing your dogs have brought to your life?
Laughter, companionship, family, love. What haven’t my girls given me? They’re everything to me. They make my tiny condo a home.
