Five for July

Soulfly Chicken: The hottest cuisine on four wheels has Miami buzzing thanks to a something-for-everyone approach to soul food. The Southern recipes developed by chef Troy Tingling are all kosher-style, but in addition there are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan offerings. Menu favorites include boneless chicken breast dipped in hot spice oil (Bird on the Run), plant-based chicken (Big Bleu), vinegar-seasoned slaw, fried corn ribs and braised collard greens. Rumor has it, a brick-and-mortar Soulfly is coming soon to Wynwood. (soulflychicken.com)

Mercury Express: Pompano Beach Cultural Center hosts this solo exhibition by Cangshu Gran, a Chinese-born oil painter now based in South Florida. The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 5, explores “childhood memories, daydreams and humor in an attempt to reclaim the wonder she lost as an adult.” Gran incorporates antiques, cartoons and pop culture in her vibrant and colorful paintings. Seeking: The Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center provides the backdrop for a staged reading of this new play by Darius Daughtry. The founder of Arts Prevails Project plans three readings (July 23 at 4 and 6 p.m., July 24 at 6 p.m.) of his latest work; the plot follows a young musician’s quest for independence, one that hinges on his family’s past. The program is part of Broward Center’s Arts for Action: Black Voices initiative. (browardcenter.org)

Gucci’s Blondie Collection: A new handbag line that once again dips into Gucci’s past is all the style rage this summer. Gucci Blondie, inspired by the signature rounded interlocking G (which dates back to patent documents from 1971), comes in a messenger bag, a chain shoulder bag and a mini version with interchangeable leather and web straps. The Spa at the Confidante: The 10th-floor health and wellness sanctuary at this Miami Beach resort is once again open. That means a reactivation of its four air-conditioned rooftop cabanas, a new sauna, a fitness terrace overlooking the beach, and an array of rejuvenating treatments—including CBD and hot stone massages, facials, scrubs and more.
