They say beauty’s only skin deep, but thanks to advances in modern science, we now know beauty runs much deeper! And a path to a beautiful body, inside and out, can start each time you pick up your toothbrush.

HEALTHY GUMS CAN MEAN A REDUCED RISK OF HEART DISEASE: Did you know regular preventative dental care can protect your heart? Lovely! Several studies have shown that periodontal (gum) disease has a direct association with heart disease. Scientists say the inflammation caused by periodontal disease may be responsible for the link. Periodontal disease can also exacerbate existing heart conditions.

HEALTHY TEETH AND GUMS CAN REDUCE YOUR RISK OF STROKE: Not only does your heart benefit, but your brain can too! Genius! studies have also pointed to a relationship between periodontal disease and stroke. In one study that looked at the causal relationship of oral infection as a risk factor for stroke, people diagnosed with acute cerebrovascular ischemia were found more likely to have an oral infection when compared to those in the control group.

DIABETES AND PERIODONTAL DISEASE: Last, but certainly not least, dental check ups for diabetics is a life-saving game changer. Diabetic patients are more likely to develop periodontal disease, which in turn can increase blood sugar and diabetic complications. People with diabetes are more likely to have periodontal disease than people without diabetes, probably because people with diabetes are more susceptible to contracting infections. So grab that toothbrush and floss and get going, gorgeous! Your smile and the rest of your body will thank you.
