Gregg Goldstein & Sadie

From shelter pup to bedtime barnacle—this pup makes clingy look cute.

How did your dog come into your life, and how has your relationship grown over time?

In October 2024, the boys volunteered with the Humane Society of Broward County’s Reading Buddies program, where they read to adoptable dogs and cats. By Sunday of that week, I hadn’t stopped hearing about Sadie. After a family birthday in Palm Beach Gardens, I drove straight to the shelter and as they say, the rest is history. Sadie has completed our family. She loves everyone – our friends, family, and neighbors. Her favorite activity is simply being with us.

What is your favorite pet charity or rescue organization and why?

The Humane Society of Broward County. Community is one of my core values, and supporting this organization means a lot. It brought us Sadie and, years earlier, one of my wife’s childhood dogs. We’ve had wonderful experiences there as both volunteers and adopters.

What’s your dog’s quirkiest habit or personality trait?

Sadie always needs to be touching one of us, whether we’re on the couch or in bed, it soothes her (and puts us to sleep!). On walks, she snacks on grass like it’s a gourmet treat, which still surprises me.

What has been the greatest blessing your dog has brought to your life?

Sadie brought healing and joy after we lost our last dog in March 2023. Unlike him, who had a complicated bond with the boys, Sadie loved them from day one. She gets very excited to greet me at the door and is my constant shadow, whether I’m taking out the trash or folding laundry. Our bond is strong and special, and I’m thankful every day that the boys were “assigned” to Sadie during the Humane Society of Broward County’s Reading Buddies program.
