Get Ready for Grand Ghoul

The 17th annual Signature Grand Ghoul promises a spook-tacular evening to benefit 2-1-1 Broward. The event, slated for Oct. 29 at Signature Grand in Davie, will be hosted by former Miami Dolphins wideout O.J. McDuffie and Seth Levit, CEO of the Jason Taylor Foundation. Guests can mingle with NFL alumni and local celebrities while enjoying a gourmet buffet and specialty cocktails from a witch’s cauldron. The evening also includes a silent auction and a contest for the scariest and most original costumes. Proceeds go to 2-1-1 Broward, which provides 24-hour comprehensive helpline and support services for those seeking crisis intervention assistance and/or info related to health and human services in Broward County. Visit 211-broward.org to register for the Grand Ghoul.

Slash Back to the ‘80s

The Selfless Love Foundation hosts its first Halloween event—Slash Back to the ’80s. Attendees are invited to dress up in their best outfits from the 1980s to support the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to supporting current and former foster youth through partnerships. The bash features pop/rock band Lovestruck Robot, specialty cocktails from Patrón, and interactive food stations from Rockstar Catering and Event Co. The event takes place Oct. 27, 8 p.m.-midnight at Excell Auto’s Exotic Car Showroom (1001 Clint Moore Road, Suite 101, Boca Raton). Tickets are $250. For information, call Stephanie Absmeier at 954.235.4203 or visit selflesslovefoundation.org.

Postcard from Encore

In the aftermath of an evening that Lifestyle magazine won’t soon forget, it seemed only appropriate that representatives from our art, sales and edit teams would celebrate in five-star style. For that, we have to thank publisher Michelle Simon, who arranged for our team to stay at Encore Resort at Reunion.

The 963-acre vacation community just west of Orlando proved the perfect backdrop for a large party—in this case, a group still basking in the glow of earning 10 first-place “Charlie” awards at the annual Florida Magazine Association awards ceremony. After capturing some of the evening’s biggest honors, including the award for Best Overall Magazine (in our circulation category), seven of us returned to sprawling eight-bedroom estate at Encore.

That’s what distinguishes this unique getaway. Instead of having to book a handful of hotel rooms to accommodate a larger group, Encore offers up luxury residences—with up to as many as 13 bedrooms. The mammoth houses can host as many as 20 people comfortably, plus all models come with private pools.

Encore Resort is less than 10 miles from the Disney theme parks, but there’s plenty on-site to keep guests busy. A full-blown AquaPark features drop slides, splash zones and more. Children have access to the Hang Ten Hideaway, an indoor recreation area with fun and games. Those looking for a little exercise can check out the tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts. Plus, guests can enjoy casual fare at Bis Grill, Shark Lounge and Finns.
