Chicken lovers were devouring wings at a fast and furious pace—all for a good cause—at a recent block party behind Sports Grill South Miami. The eighth annual “Wings for Wishes” drew more than 2,000 attendees and, more importantly, raised more than $400,000 for Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. The amount raised enables the Southern Florida chapter to grant 80 wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Make-A-Wish board members Gal Bensaadon and Brian Exelbert helped to plan the event, which featured food and drink stations, live music and several wing-eating competitions. Special guest Joey Chestnut, the competitive eater known for his consumption of hot dogs, participated in a timed wing-eating contest. Geoffrey Esper captured the title, scarfing nearly 200 wings in 10 minutes.
