Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds

  • Brave four haunted houses, embrace carnival rides and enjoy live music, food and more entertainment.

III Points Music Art + Tech Festival

  • Over three days, there will be a full lineup for cutting-edge international performances, including the best of Miami’s music scene. There will be more than 85 performers, as well as lectures, labs, tech talks and a gallery showcase.
  • When: 6 p.m., through Sunday
  • Where: Mana Wynwood (318 NW 23rd St., Miami)

YES

  • Three former members of the English progressive rock band—Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman—are back in action.
  • Where: 7 p.m.

Nefesh Mountain

  • The bluegrass/Jewish soul band will appear twice at Congregation B’nai Israel. They will perform Friday with the CBI clergy in a Shabbat experience. On Saturday, they will follow a performance by the Shade Tree Pickers.
  • When: 7:30 p.m. Friday; 7 p.m. Saturday
  • Price: Premium reserved tickets and the dessert reception tickets are $118. Reserved seats are $54. General admission is $36 and student admission is $20 (all Saturday)

The Sound of Music

  • A new production based on the beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family.
  • When: 8 p.m. (12 more performances through Oct. 22)

“The Good Girl”

  • Primal Forces is opening its 2017-2018 season with the Southeastern premiere of this provocative dark comedy. Written by Emilie Collyer, the award-winning play offers a futuristic view of people’s intimate interaction with robots.
  • When: 8 p.m.; 7 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday (runs through Oct. 29)

Saturday, Oct. 14

GreenMarket Pompano Beach opens

  • The locally-produced open air market features local fruits and vegetables, baked goods, fresh seafood, gourmet teas and coffee, specialty food items, as well as home-made crafts, health-related products and live music. Open every Saturday from October through April.
  • When: 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
  • Where: 41 NE 1st St., Pompano Beach

Monster Splash: A Halloween Celebration

  • The family-friendly event features a pumpkin patch, create-a-scarecrow-zone and dance party, plus face painting, inflatables and rides.
  • When: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. (Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 29)
  • Where: Miami Seaquarium (4400 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami)

“Going Pink” at the Spa at Mandarin Oriental

  • The Miami spa will host NaMOste, a singing bowl session, on the South Lawn. Donations are encouraged. Additionally, throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, guests can add a Perk Eye Lift or Perk Lip Lift with any facial or nail service for an additional $35, with $10 going toward Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale.

Peter Pan Pirate Party

  • The annual party is sailing into the Stranahan House, combining the renowned literary characters with food, crafts, games and fun. Advanced registration is required.

Recipes for a Change

  • Executive chef Santiago Gómez of Cantina La Veinte and Tacology will gather six noteworthy chefs from Miami and Latin America to help victims of the recent storms. Each chef will highlight his or her individual backgrounds and techniques, and all proceeds of the event will benefit affected local farms.
  • When: 4–11 p.m.
  • Price: $25 (includes six bites and a cocktail); $50 (includes unlimited bites and a cocktail)

Eats ‘n’ Beats

  • The free outdoor concert will feature a lineup of food trucks and performances by Making Faces and the Andrew Morris Band.

Comedy Night

  • Award-winning entrepreneur Durée Ross will serve as honoree during the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s fundraising night, which will include top entertainers. Funds raised from this event will support the organization’s efforts toward finding a cure for digestive diseases.

  • In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Promenade at Coconut Creek invites the public to dine during its weeklong initiative, the Power of Pink, to raise funds and awareness for Sylvester Comprehensive Center at Deerfield Beach, part of the University of Miami Health System. A percentage of select items and prix-fixe menus will benefit the cause, with Ciao Cucina and Ethos Greek Bistro continuing throughout the month. From chilling tales of homegrown town leaders who had untimely deaths to accounts of haunted sites, poltergeists and the spirits within the Stranahan House itself, this presentation is sure to get creepy. Admission is free.

Big Bad BBQ

  • Danto Builders in Fort Lauderdale is hosting its fourth annual event, benefitting the Special Olympics. There will be all-you-can-eat barbecue and drinks, as well as live music by KC and the Sunshine Band’s James Magnole and live art by local therapeutic mobile artist Nikipaint Studios.

Hall and Walt Wine Pairing Dinner

  • Kuro, the new-style Japanese restaurant at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, is hosting an exclusive pairing dinner featuring the acclaimed wines of sister wineries, Hall and Walt. Hosted by Vintner Kathryn Walt Hall, the five-course dinner will be prepared by Kuro’s creative culinary team led by Executive Chef Alex Q. Becker.
