The Slice is Right

If there’s anything that South Floridians love as much as our tropical weather and sunshine, it’s a party.

The problem, for groups looking to stage such an event, is where to host it.

Enter Patty Leon, who gives her clients a place to let good times roll at Slice, an event venue in Weston. Along the way, Slice’s owner and director of catering (among other titles) is meeting the local demand for a space that caters to custom parties.

Leon was in the event-planning business for 15 years before she decided to move Slice to Weston in March 2014. Today, the business stands out in a region that has its share of country clubs. Patrons tell Leon that the cool, modern vibe offers a contrast compared to more formal settings.

“It’s a hard business, but I love it,” Leon says. “You have to have a special [affection] for it, and people know that when they come in and [meet with her]. People can feel it.”

Slice hosts everything from bar mitzvahs and quinceañeras to corporate events, holiday parties and anniversaries.

A big attraction is Slice’s ability to customize—not just in terms of decoration, but in themes and menus. Chefs can create international cuisine, and customers can create their own themes.

Leon, who wanted to become a chef before she fell in love with party planning, frequently helps with preparing the food. If she can’t be hands-on in the kitchen, she stays involved with creating many of the menus.

Slice, which has some reservations booked three years in advance, has made its mark locally, including staging events with bands from Venezuela and Colombia. The party soon might spread across South Florida, as Leon looks to expand into the Boca Raton area soon.
